Stop the heat before the glass
Air conditioning fights heat after it’s already inside. Solar screens intercept it at the window: a dense sun-blocking mesh absorbs and reflects solar energy before it reaches the glass, so the room behind it stays measurably cooler and the AC cycles less. On west-facing rooms in inland California, the difference is the kind you feel the first afternoon.
Solar mesh also softens glare and blocks the UV that fades carpet, hardwood and furniture — and it solves a uniquely Californian problem: sunlight reflecting off energy-efficient windows hot enough to melt artificial turf. A solar screen kills the reflection.
Honest trade-offs, honestly told
Solar screens are tinted and woven denser than insect mesh, so rooms behind them sit a little dimmer, and the view through them is more shaded — many owners like the added daytime privacy, but you should choose it on purpose. They also collect dust faster than standard mesh and appreciate an occasional rinse.
We’ll tell you which windows will benefit most (south and west faces first) and where standard mesh is the smarter buy. Whole-house solar is rarely the right answer; the right six windows usually are.

Solar screen installation is $55 per window booked online ($65 by phone), fabricated on-site into aluminum frames like every screen we build. Combine solar on the hot faces with standard rescreening elsewhere in one visit — one trip charge of zero either way, because we don’t charge trip fees.
